Sufio automated Shopify invoices

Sufio is a mature Shopify invoicing app that creates invoices, credit notes and other commercial documents from Shopify orders. Its strongest fit is a merchant selling internationally or B2B who needs properly structured documents, tax details and e-invoicing support without building an internal system. The difference from simpler PDF invoice apps is the document logic: Sufio is designed to create separate documents when an order is edited or refunded rather than silently rewriting an issued invoice. That is valuable, but it also means the setup needs real attention. Treat Sufio as an invoicing layer that reflects your Shopify data, not as a replacement for correct Shopify tax configuration or professional tax advice.

Key features

  • Create and send invoices, receipts, credit notes, pro forma invoices, delivery notes, quotes and estimates. Customers can also download documents from the online store, and teams can bulk print or download PDFs.
  • Handle refunds through credit notes and preserve the trail of documents instead of overwriting an existing invoice. Sufio also supports custom document numbering, editable templates, emails, line-item data and Shopify metafields.
  • Support e-invoicing standards including Peppol, ZUGFeRD and Factur-X. The developer says its PDFs and credit notes include structured, country-specific invoice data, and it offers secure document storage for up to 10 years.
  • Automate B2B invoicing with wholesale pricing, payment terms, PO numbers, EU VAT-number validation and tax-exempt customer handling. It also supports commercial invoices with HS codes and country-of-origin information for exports.
  • Connect with Shopify Checkout, customer accounts, POS, Klaviyo, Recharge, SparkLayer, Stripe and Zapiet. It supports multiple currencies and, with compatible localisation tools, documents in the customer's language.
  • Invoices are created automatically for new Shopify orders by default, while automatic email sending remains off until you configure it. That is a sensible safeguard, but the initial settings still deserve a careful test.

Pricing and trial information

Sufio has a 14-day free trial and starts at $7 per month for 15 invoices. Growth costs $19 for 50 invoices, Professional costs $49 for 5,000 invoices, and Premium costs $129 for unlimited invoices. The jump between Growth and Professional is large, so a store regularly issuing more than 50 documents should model its real volume before choosing a plan. Invoices submitted to an e-invoicing network are listed at an additional $0.05 per document. The developer also advertises a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Professional adds practical international features such as credit notes from refunds, commercial invoices, multi-language and multi-currency support, HS codes, VAT validation and custom numbering. Premium is where Sufio places its most flexible automation workflows, premium support and personalized setup. Its FAQ also says custom invoice-creation and sending workflows require Premium or higher, so do not assume a lower plan will cover a bespoke B2B flow.

Rating and reviews

At the time of checking, Sufio is rated 4.9 out of 5 from 425 Shopify App Store reviews, with 401 five-star reviews. Merchant feedback is unusually consistent on three points: invoices are easy to configure, templates are flexible, and support is fast and capable when a setup needs individual work. A recent merchant reported setting up invoices, templates, credit notes and automatic emailing in around 30 minutes, then booking an expert call the next day to validate the setup. That support-led approach is a real strength for a product that can otherwise become technical.

Pitfalls

  • On installation, Sufio's first synchronization creates invoices for the latest 5,000 Shopify orders. Confirm how you want historical documents handled before connecting a live store, particularly if old orders have incomplete customer or tax data.
  • Sufio displays taxes from the Shopify order. Its own documentation says missing tax on an automatic invoice is usually a Shopify tax, product-taxable or customer-tax-exempt setting issue, and it does not provide tax consultation. Validate a small set of real order scenarios with your accountant before going live.
  • Updating an invoice in Sufio does not update the Shopify order. Invoice updates after an order changes are not enabled by default either. You can update a document manually or ask support to enable the relevant behavior. Likewise, automated credit-note creation and sending may need support configuration.
  • Peppol needs specific testing. A recent merchant reported trouble using VAT numbers from Shopify's native order data. Sufio replied that Shopify does not expose that VAT field through its API and pointed to its own capture and validation options. Test the exact VAT capture route you use before promising automated Peppol invoices.
  • The feature limits are material. Starter only covers 15 invoices, credit notes from refunds are on Professional, and custom workflows are Premium or higher. One current review also found the Starter option easy to miss during setup, so check the plan selection and included documents before installing.
  • Sufio processes and stores customer, product and invoice data in order to create documents. Its privacy policy and data processing agreement are more detailed than many app policies, but this is still a processor that handles customer addresses, tax identifiers and line-item data. Review it with your privacy owner if that is sensitive for your business.

Conclusion

Sufio is a very strong choice for Shopify merchants who need more than a branded PDF. I would shortlist it for EU and UK B2B, multi-currency sellers, stores that need credit notes to follow refunds cleanly, and teams preparing for Peppol or other e-invoicing requirements. The $7 plan is useful only for very low volume. For serious international invoicing, Professional is the meaningful starting point. Use the trial to test several live-like orders, a refund, an edited order, VAT capture and the final PDF with your accountant. If your requirements need theme, checkout or custom workflow work, consider getting Shopify developer support before you automate customer emails. Sufio can produce dependable documents, but the underlying order and tax data still need to be right.

Pros

  • Robust invoices, credit notes and B2B documents rather than simple PDF printouts.
  • Strong e-invoicing, EU VAT and export-document features for international sellers.
  • Clear 14-day trial and pricing that starts at $7 per month.
  • Consistently praised expert support and optional personalized setup.
  • Thoughtful handling of refunds and order edits through separate document records.

cons

  • First synchronization creates invoices for up to 5,000 recent Shopify orders.
  • Tax accuracy still depends on Shopify settings and merchant or accountant validation.
  • Key B2B features and custom workflows are gated by higher plans.
  • Peppol VAT capture needs testing with the store's exact Shopify workflow.
  • Handles sensitive customer, tax and line-item data as part of invoicing.
