Consentmo GDPR compliance dashboard for Shopify

Consentmo is one of the more serious privacy-compliance apps for Shopify. It goes well beyond placing a cookie banner in the corner of the screen: it combines location-aware consent banners, consent records, data-subject request pages, script and pixel controls, and Google Consent Mode v2. Higher tiers add web-accessibility tools and a customer withdrawal flow for EU stores. That breadth is useful for a store that sells across markets or relies heavily on paid tracking. It is not a shortcut to legal compliance. The app can help enforce a configured consent process and keep records, but the legal basis, wording, data mapping, and final responsibility still belong to the merchant.

Key features

  • Geo-targeted cookie banner and preferences: Consentmo detects a visitor's location and can show a regional banner with a preference selector, policy links, language handling, and a persistent way to change consent.
  • Consent records and privacy requests: The free plan includes customer data subject access request pages, logs, a compliance centre, reports, and a cookie scan. The developer's policy explains that consent logs can include a masked IP address, timing, the accepted policy, and available customer information.
  • Script and pixel controls: Standard adds the integrations scanner, Google Consent Mode v2, Google, Meta, TikTok, and Microsoft consent-related controls, plus more detailed cookie scanning and management.
  • Multi-market tools: The paid tiers add multilingual banner translations, smart region-specific banners, banner timing and page controls, analytics, cookie categorisation, and cross-domain consent on Enterprise.
  • Accessibility and EU withdrawal: Plus includes an accessibility widget and an EU withdrawal page flow. Enterprise adds IAB TCF v2.3, headless and Hydrogen support, and a Shopify Plus checkout banner.

Pricing and trial information

The Free plan is a genuine starting point: it includes unlimited banner impressions, three banner styles with preferences, global geolocation support, DSAR pages and logs, a compliance centre, a free cookie scan, EU languages, and basic script blocking. Standard costs $9 a month, or $90 annually, and adds the integrations scanner and alerts, Google Consent Mode v2, pixel and UET consent controls, an on-demand AI cookie scanner, imports and exports, backups, a cookie-management table, and multilingual banner translations.

Plus costs $34 a month, or $339.99 annually, and adds the accessibility tools, smart regional banners, implied-consent support, EU withdrawal flow, advanced consent analytics, and AI cookie categorisation. Enterprise costs $59 a month, or $589.98 annually, and adds IAB TCF v2.3, cross-domain consent, headless support, the Shopify Plus checkout banner, and bot or crawler protections around false consent. Each paid plan has a seven-day trial. The annual price saves 17% according to the current listing.

Rating and reviews

At the time of review, Consentmo has a 5.0 out of 5 rating from 1,871 Shopify App Store reviews, with 98% of ratings at five stars. That is both an excellent score and a large review base. Recent long-term users praise the breadth of the app, quick support, and help adapting a setup to legal teams' requirements. The critical reviews are worth reading too. One merchant reported tracking disruption after a theme update in July 2026; Consentmo replied that Shopify theme changes can deactivate app embeds and require the consent setup to be re-enabled and retested. Another merchant blamed tracking problems after uninstalling; the developer said the app had left no scripts and that tracking can remain blocked if no consent banner is active. These are not reasons to dismiss the app, but they show why consent and tracking need a controlled rollout.

Pitfalls

  • A banner is not a legal opinion. Consentmo itself says it provides tools, not legal or regulatory advice. Do not treat a prebuilt regional setting as a substitute for reviewed privacy, cookie, and tracking practices.
  • Theme changes need a tracking regression test. After publishing a new theme, verify the app embed, banner, Consent Mode, GTM, ad pixels, analytics, and customer preference controls. Test consent granted, denied, changed later, and no-banner scenarios.
  • Accessibility widgets have limits. A widget can improve visitor controls, but it does not by itself prove that a custom theme, product content, or checkout meets every accessibility requirement.
  • The withdrawal flow is a workflow, not the legal decision. It can collect and manage requests, but it does not decide eligibility, issue a refund, or replace the policy and operations behind it. Our EU withdrawal requirement guide explains the wider Shopify process.
  • The permission scope is broad. The listing includes sensitive customer and device data, customers, all order history, product data, theme and script tags, privacy settings, locales, and navigation. That is understandable for the feature set, but it deserves normal vendor and data-protection review before installation.

Conclusion

I would choose Consentmo for a Shopify store that needs to manage consent across markets and tracking tools, rather than merely display a basic cookie notice. The Free plan is a credible way to validate the banner, request pages, and baseline blocking. Standard is the practical choice when Google Consent Mode v2 and pixel integrations matter. Plus and Enterprise only earn their higher prices when accessibility, EU withdrawal, regional automation, IAB, cross-domain, headless, or checkout requirements are real. Install it carefully, document your current tracking, and use the seven-day trial to prove that consent choices and conversion reporting behave as expected.

Pros

  • Large, current 5.0 rating from 1,871 reviews and Built for Shopify status.
  • Free plan includes unlimited banner impressions, DSAR pages, logs, geolocation, a scan, and basic blocking.
  • Strong consent, pixel, Consent Mode, privacy-request, and multi-market toolset.
  • Recent reviews consistently praise responsive, hands-on support.
  • Clear upgrade path for accessibility, EU withdrawal, IAB, headless, and Shopify Plus needs.

cons

  • Correct configuration still needs legal, tracking, and theme-specific review.
  • Consent and pixel setup should be retested after a theme change.
  • Accessibility widget does not replace an accessibility audit.
  • Important capabilities are split across $9, $34, and $59 monthly tiers.
  • The app requires broad access to customer, order, theme, privacy, and device-related data.
