Gift Box is a Shopify app for managing free gifts to customers. It allows you to reward your customers with a certain free gift in the form of a product or service (i.e. gift packaging) when their cart reaches the specified spent. If your question is missing, just ask us!
What is the Gift Box app good for?
Gift Box allows you to reward customers with a free gift(s) when they complete an order. You control which free gift they get and what are the rules to get it.
The whole concept is based on an incentive to motivate your customers to finish the order and increase its value. The Gift Box pop-up is visible whole time on your store, so your customers can see it at any time.
Can customers use discount codes together with the free gift?
Unfortunately, not at the moment. The problem is the Shopify platform allows only a single discount code to be used per order. And we are using the discount code to make the free gift “free”. This is quite a notorious challenge to many merchants and you can read more about it on the Shopify Forum.
We plan to address this issue in the future by collecting the discounts via our app and/or on the cart page but it requires a complex development.
Why the free gift doesn’t appear in the cart?
Our app is using a so-called draft orders approach which means free gifts are added only when a customer is checking out. We tried to add free gifts also to the customer’s cart but it was impossible to guarantee compatibility with thousands of Shopify themes and AJAX carts.
Which free gifts I can offer?
There are basically two types of free gifts you can offer. Free Product or Free Service (free shipping, gift packaging, etc.).
- Free product is an existing product from your Shopify product catalog.
- Free service is any custom service you can think of. You can either pick from one of our pre-defined templates or create a custom one.
How to set up a free gift?
Simply click on the button New Gift and follow these steps:
- Select one of the templates based on your needs and click on Select & Customize.
- Enter a Gift Name, select a product (only in case of a Free Product gift), set up a Threshold (i.e. from what cart value the customer will automatically get it), and click on Save and Activate.
- That’s it, your customers will now see the Gift Box as previewed in the Shopify administration.
How to delete or hide the existing free gift?
To pause (i.e. make it inactive and invisible) the free gift go to the app dashboard and move the toggle of the specific gift from green to grey.
To completely delete the free gift go to the app dashboard and click on the specific tile (line) in the Your Gift Box section. You should get into Gift Setup and at the bottom of the page, there is a red button called Delete Gift. Click on it and confirm.
How many free gifts I can offer?
You can offer an unlimited amount of free gifts. The Gift Box is designed in a fully responsive way, so even 10 different free gifts will still look great. However, we recommend offering 2 to 3 gifts as a maximum.
Can I change the texts and/or colors in the pop-up?
Yes, you can. Simply go to Settings in the top menu and adjust the color and texts per your needs.
Can I control the way how the Gift Box opens on my store?
Yes, you can. Simply go to Settings in the top menu and scroll down to Auto-Open Settings section. You can control when the Gift Box should open automatically. The options are:
- Open on every first visit to your store
- Open every time when a customer gets to Cart
- Open every time when a customer becomes eligible for a free gift
By default all three options are pre-checked.
Can I offer a discount as a free gift?
You can offer a discount in the form of custom service for the next order. At the moment, you can’t offer a discount on the order which is in progress.
Can customers reject the free gift?
Not at the moment. If a customer is eligible for the free gift, he/she will always get it. We definitely plan to change this in the future and give customers a choice to opt-out of the free gift.
Who is providing the pre-defined services (Gift Packaging, Extended Warranty) in the app?
These are just examples. We are not providing any services, we are just offering a tool to offer them to your customers. You are solely responsible for any services you will be offering through our app on your store.
What does the Performance Summary in the Dashboard mean?
Performance Summary tracks the performance of your free gifts. Views mean how many times your customers saw any offer. Transactions mean how many of them you have successfully sold and Sales for how much. All the data are tracked only for orders which contained at least one of the free gifts.
