Another month has passed and we realized it’s time for our regular Candy Rack update summary. We are very happy with how the app performs and how it help Shopify merchants to upsell. We have launched the app in October 2018. As of today, we have close to 200 merchants and overall it helped to generate over $90 000 via upselling. That’s really cool and something we are really proud of!
The list of updates mainly includes customizations. Even though Candy Rack user interface and design are pretty universal, we realize it may not fit everyone. That’s why we listened to your feedback and implemented many new customizations. So you can tune the app per your needs.
1. Custom CSS
We have added a Custom CSS field to settings which allows merchants to easily modify the Candy Rack CSS and how the pop-up looks. Just paste your custom code, save and refresh the store. All changes will be live immediately.
For example, you can change the colors, font sizes, what is displayed and what not, margins etc. You can totally change the look and feel of the pop-up.
Below is the overview of the supported classes from the pop-up. Basically, all are supported.
2. Custom Icons for Services
This is something that many merchants have been asking for. If you are using custom offers or services, you can choose from a selection of 13 default icons. But we obviously couldn’t cover all use cases with only 13 icons.
Now you can easily load any image and it will be used as the service image on the pop-up. Just click on “Go to product detail” and upload your custom image. Make sure it’s on the first position.
3. Fully Customizable Messaging & Localizations
Some of our merchants are running stores in a different language than in English. While the app admin is currently only in English, merchants can translate and localize the pop-up and all the wording via settings to any language.
This was partly available from the beginning of the app existence, but now we have included all the wording.
4. Performance Optimizations
We have loaded the main Candy Rack script on CDN, so it’s now loading much faster and uses caching. It significantly reduced the time which was required for the script to load.
In order not to block the product page elements, we are loading Candy Rackasynchronouslyy. That’s a safe method but sometimes can cause the pop-up won’t trigger if the visitor clicks on the Add to Cart button to fast. Our general recommendation when testing the app is to wait until the product page is fully loaded before clicking on the cart button.
5. Dozens of Other Fixes
Besides the new features, we have also fixed dozens of design/layout glitches. Some of them reported by our merchants, some of them we found by ourselves.
What’s Coming Next?
There is so much more going on right now. Besides working hard on Candy Rack, we have launched a simple app for pushing sold out products to the end of the store collection called Out Of Stock Last.
